THE BIFURCATION LAND
" When using Tärendö as base, there is no need to " dip your hook "twice in the same water. Here, hundreds of kilometres of fine fishing-grounds in two rivers await your arrival. And you might place the sleeping-bag in a bears winter lair. " Quotation from Magazine, Kalix Älv
Not far from Masugnsbyn, one of a few known bifurcations might be experienced. Here, the Tärendö River connects the vast Torne River with the Kalix River. At the outlet to the Kalix River, the beautiful village Tärendö is to be found, in which domains interesting and family-friendly recreational areas await the visitor. Classical salmon rapids are Saarikurkkio and further downstream Mestoslinkka. The rapid has a length of about 2 kilometres, and is very well-adapted for fly-fishing.
Tärendö Turism has a nearby holiday village with small cottages and a restaurant, in close connection to roads and waters. The area is suited for beginners as well as for seasoned anglers. Tärendö Turism takes good care of guests, keen on fishing, and the bifurcation river is a good choice in regard to angling for salmon trout, grayling, and whitefish. There are also sauna- and conference-establishments, a beautiful community centre and various enticing activities, also during wintertime. Downstream of Tärendö, the Kalix River stretches out and forms one of the mightiest waters of Europe. Here, the Nark River flows into the Kalix River close to the village Narken. Comprehensive measures for the protection of fishery and biotopes have been undertaken throughout this water. The River is an extremely attractive fly-fishing water, of favourable size, with inviting stretches and rapids. And all of this in an environment, which is today regarded to be one of Europe´s last wild regions. Narkens Jakt och Fiskecamp is located in the middle of the village. Here, one-room flats with accommodation for four person, with adherent sauna and shower, might be offered.
