THE TRIBUTARY AREAS OF THE KALIX RIVER
Close to the famous laplander village Nikkaluokta - west of Kiruna, Paittasjärvi is to be found, which is one of the tributary lakes of the Kalix River. The lake is connected with Holmajärvi, located downstream, and Kaalasjärvi, which together form a magnificent fishing- and wilderness area. Interesting fishing-grounds are the streams in the proximity of Laukkuluspa and the outlet at the very bottom of Kaalasjärvi, at Kalaasluspa. The actual Kalix River starts at Kalaasluspa and offers a great number of rapids and untouched surroundings down to Lappeasuando. Grayling, salmon trout and whitefish are the most common types of fish, but salmon is also to be found.
